The Asbury congregation seeks to exhibit the
hands, feet and heart of God as we participate in building community in the
Lafayette area through our own initiatives as well as with our collective actions in cooperation with
existing community missions.
Asbury in Mission to the Community
Asbury Hearts & Hangers:
collect and sort children's clothing, children's school uniforms and baby items for needy children in the
community. If you would like to volunteer or make a donation of children's clothes, baby
items, or a monetary donation, please contact Asbury at 337-984-4211.
The Pillowcase Project:
We need volunteers! We are
partnering with First UMC of Lafayette, Inglewood UMC in Baton Rouge, and other
area churches to assist with the Pillowcase
Project. We need sewers of all ages and skill levels to assist with making
handmade pillowcases for many area persons in need. Sewing skill is not
necessary- but a love for God and a desire to be His arms and legs is
necessary! We meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the
month from 4pm – 8:30pm on the 4th floor of First UMC in Lafayette.
Drop-ins welcome! We also meet on the 2nd Saturday in the same
location from 9am – 1pm, where there is food and fellowship, always. We have
additional information here.
mission fundraiser occurs during the Christmas holidays. Asburians "adopt”
children in need of Christmas gifts.
Families are provided with holiday meals. Additionally, other local mission efforts
are chosen to receive assistance throughout the year. Click here for more information.

Asbury receives many calls a week for assistance. We work closely with United Christian
Outreach and Love, Inc. to faithfully help those who are in real need.
Servants on Standby (SOS):
SOS is a
collaboration of Asbury and Love, INC.
that provides assistance to those in need of services such as home
& auto repairs, house cleaning, transportation to doctors, etc. If you are able to volunteer from time to

Assisted Living/Nursing Home Ministry:
lead worship and serve communion at local facilities on Thursdays. Gift bags are delivered at holiday

vision to relationally empower lives through Spiritual Transformation,

clothing, medical supplies etc. with Christ at the center of all they do. You

United Christian Outreach to help others. Donate any/all of the following
most needed items on the 1st Sunday of each month, placing them in the
container in the Narthex (main sanctuary entrance): Peanut Butter, Jelly,
Sugar, Flour, Tuna, Canned Fruit, Bar Soap. Other food staples and monetary
donations are also appreciated.
