Pillowcase Project

The Pillowcase Project

This past year, the Sew-L-Sisters (those faithful sewists) made and delivered 500+ pillowcases. Although we are connected to a UMW (United Methodist Woman) circle at First United Methodist Church in Lafayette, anyone is welcome to come sew with us. No sewing experience is necessary! We invite you to join us for cutting fabric, ironing, packing, and other tasks needed to complete these projects.

The Pillowcase Project has found a home at First United Methodist Church in Lafayette, room 402. This classroom stores all supplies: sewing machines, ironing boards, fabrics, cutting boards, etc. Most items have been donated, but we have been blessed by the UMW, who gives money and materials periodically. All supplies are ready, we just need YOU to show up! Please bring your own snack/sack lunch for our meal break.

 Below is our current schedule:

October 17 4pm - 8pm

November 7 4pm - 8pm

November 10 9am - 1pm

November 28 4pm - 8pm

A few of the recipients of our pillowcases:

  • ·      Grace Camp campers
  • ·      Faith House residents
  • ·      Shut-ins, hospitalized persons
  • ·      UMW McDonald Children’s Home residents
  • ·      Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home residents in Ruston, Sulphur, and Mandeville
  • ·      Special orders(shelters, hospitals, etc.)

In addition to the pillowcase ministry, this year we are partnering with Ingleside UMC in Baton Rouge for "Days for Girls”, an international organization that makes reusable feminine hygiene kits. These kits are sent to the poorest areas on the planet. Please visit daysforgirls.org for more information. Our part is to sew the bag.

I pray you will join this group. Sewing skills are optional, but a love for God and the ability/availability to be His arms and legs are necessary!
